What this is not
Not a dealer, not an installer and not an emergency service. For a fault at sea, call the local volunteer marine rescue service on VHF 16 or the emergency number. For a purchase, take the shortlist from this site to a dealer who can see the boat.
How it works
What happens to your message
Questions
General questions about choosing, fitting or using an autopilot are answered by email where the editor can, and the useful ones are folded into the FAQ or a guide at the next review. Specific boats need an installer who can see them; the reply will say so.
Corrections
A correction with a source (manufacturer page, dealer listing, authority document) is checked and applied in the next review, and the page’s review date is updated. Corrections without a source are checked when time allows.
Suggestions
New products, provider types, regions and resources are welcome. The site does not list individual businesses as recommendations, so a suggestion to add a dealer or instructor will be declined politely; a suggestion to describe a kind of provider will not.
How quickly will I hear back?
Usually within a week. The site is edited around sailing and a day job, so passages and boat shows slow replies.
Can you recommend an installer or instructor near me?
No. The site does not name businesses. The state and regional pages describe what to look for and the ten questions that sort a good provider from the rest.
Can you tell me which autopilot to buy for my boat?
The finder and the boat-type guides get you to a shortlist. The final call needs someone who has measured the rudder stock or the steering cylinder, and that is an installer.
