All prices are indicative Australian retail in AUD as reviewed in September 2026, before or including installation as stated, and vary by dealer, bundle, boat show timing and exchange rate. Confirm with a dealer before budgeting.
Installation figures assume a straightforward boat with access to the steering gear. Boats without a tiller arm, with awkward lazarettes or with old wiring cost more.
Imported products (Pelagic, CPT, Hydrovane, Windpilot, NKE) are quoted landed, including freight and GST, at recent exchange rates.
Questions
Frequently asked
Why is the fitted price so much higher than the pack price?
Below-deck systems need a tiller arm, a drive foundation, rudder stops, a rudder reference and a network backbone, and the labour to fit them properly. Above-deck and hydraulic packs need less. Get two itemised quotes.
Is a cheaper autopilot a false economy?
A correctly sized cheaper system is fine. An undersized cheaper system is the false economy: it works on flat water and fails offshore, and the second installation costs more than the first would have.
What is the best value line in these tables?
The installer handover. A few hundred dollars on the water with the person who fitted the system prevents most of the problems the other tables exist to fix.
Do prices change through the year?
Boat show pricing is usually the best of the year, and exchange rates move imported products. Treat every figure here as indicative and confirm with a dealer.
Include autopilot training in the installed budget
It is the cheapest line in every table and the one that decides whether the rest was money well spent.
