NAC-D Performance applications and compatibility

The NAC-D Performance bundle pairs Simrad’s digital-steering computer with an HS65 GNSS compass and a NMEA 2000 starter kit. The important distinction is the steering interface: it is intended for supported electronic steering systems rather than adding a conventional autopilot hydraulic pump.

This is a current package addition to our coverage, not a claim that the NAC-D computer itself was launched in 2026. Compare it with a NAC-2 or NAC-3 installation by steering architecture first; package names and screen size come later.

NAC-D steering generation and software compatibility

Record the engine and steering-control models, their generation and the installed software before seeking a quote. Ask for confirmation against the exact supported combination. Digital steering is a category, not a universal plug-and-play standard.

The underlying NAC-D documentation names interfaces from several steering suppliers, but that should not be read as approval for every boat carrying one of those brands. The installer should identify required gateway hardware, supported versions and the correct commissioning procedure.

NAC-D controls, heading sensors and network installation

Ask which controller, display, cable lengths and mounting work the quote includes. A core pack is a foundation for an installation; it is not evidence that the boat already contains everything else required. Confirm how heading and position data will be selected when other sensors remain aboard.

Consider where the heading equipment can be fitted and serviced. Discuss installation constraints with the dealer rather than assuming the existing compass location can be reused for a different sensor design. Keep the final equipment and source-selection record aboard.

NAC-D manual takeover and owner handover

The handover should show the actual manual-control behaviour, active mode indication and response to relevant alarms. Do not import a takeover habit from another hydraulic or digital steering installation. Practise with suitable sea room and someone maintaining lookout.

Ask who supports an issue spanning the engine controls and autopilot network. A clear contact and a written system diagram make a better ownership plan than an assurance that both devices have matching plugs.

NAC-D Performance Australian pricing and quote checklist

Australian availability and complete installed pricing require dealer confirmation. The overseas core-pack listing is not an Australian supply or installation quote.

  • Is my exact steering-control generation supported?
  • Which controller and gateway parts are required?
  • Where will the HS65 be installed, and which data source will the pilot use?
  • Who commissions the interface and demonstrates manual takeover?

NAC-D Performance frequently asked questions

Is NAC-D a replacement for every NAC-2 or NAC-3?

No. NAC-D targets supported digital steering interfaces. A conventional motor or hydraulic-pump installation needs the appropriate drive architecture.

Does the Performance package make the computer a new generation?

The verified distinction is the package and included HS65 compass. This page does not claim a new NAC-D computer generation.

Does the core pack include every required part?

Have the installer confirm controller, interface, cabling and commissioning requirements against the boat. A core-pack name alone is not a full scope.

Can I price this using a currency conversion?

That would omit local supply conditions, tax treatment, installation and support. Obtain an Australian itemised quote.
